Ethan Scott-Branagan Selected in NSW Junior State Squad

Steven Maas, Tuesday, 21 November 2017

Congratulations to Ethan Scott-Branagan. Once again he has come to the attention of the State Junior Selectors, having been chosen for the 2018 NSW Junior State Squad. Ethan's abilities were on display in the recent City v Country Series consisting of 3 tests held at Cabramatta Bowling Club. The City Junior Side won 2 tests to 1.

The NSW Junior State Squad consists of two tiers known as the 'Top Tier' and the 'Silver Tier'. The 'Top Tier' Squad will consist of 29 athletes and most, with the addition of some 'Silver Tier' invitees, will attend a specialised training camp in January 2018 followed by regional training days across the year. The ‘Silver Tier’ Squad members will have regular contact with the NSW coaches and selectors, will also be invited to all the NSW Under 18 regional training days throughout 2018.

As a member of the NSW ‘Silver’ squad, Ethan has a fantastic opportunity to strengthen his skills as well as establishing solid training habits. The ‘Silver’ squad will work as a feeder squad into the Top Tier State Squad, with players being rewarded for their hard work on and off the green.

Once again, CONGRATULATIONS go out to Ethan from all of us at the 'Belrose Bulls'

2017 Club Triples, Touring Bowlers & Deano's 50th!

Michael Rawlings, Crawford (Craw) Linton and Steve Rawlings
Andy Little, Sunday, 29 October 2017

Club Triples Finals, Touring Bowlers day & Dean Daniel's 50th Birthday.

A busy day at Club Belrose today.

Our Club Triples was completed this morning with Michael Rawlings, Crawford Linton & Steve Rawlings playing John Venteman, Mikel (Doc) Smith & Graham Hartmann.

The weather was a hot 28 degrees, with still and humid conditions.

Team Rawlo lead to the 20th end 17-13, when on the 21st end team Hartmann picked up a 5 followed by a 1 on 22nd end to lead 19-17. Then team Rawlo moved into gear to pick up a 4 followed by a 3 and a 1 to go on and win 25-19.

Overall a very well played game and enabled Michael & Steve to retain their Triples Title this year with Craw’s help, taking Billy Johnson’s place who was in last year’s team.

Congratulations to both teams and well played.

We now look forward to Crawford, Matt Blackburn and Steve playing in the Australian Championship Triples on 29th November at Merimbula.

Touring Bowlers.

A happy crowd of 34 bowlers and 5 non bowlers played this morning, followed by lunch/lucky player draws and raffle.

A fun day was had by all.

Dean Daniel's (DD) 50th Birthday Barefoot Bowls Afternoon.

Dean celebrated his 50th earlier this week and held a fun afternoon of bowls with his family and friends, with many children in attendance.

The afternoon was followed by dinner.

Well done and congratulations DD.

Andy Little Becomes a Life Member

Andy Little & Allan Hanson
Club Belrose/Mike Gibb, Thursday, 26 October 2017

Andy Little Becomes a Life Member.

At the Club's AGM on Sunday 22 October 2017, the membership voted unanimously in favour of the Boards Special Resolution to bestow Life Membership on Andy Little for long and meritorious service.

In addition to the Chairman Allan Hanson who spoke in favour of the resolution, several other members saluted the tireless efforts of the nominee. One such member was Life Member Mike Gibb. The following is an extract of Mike's speech.

"It is with great pleasure that I wish to speak in support of the Life Membership nomination for Andy Little.

Andy joined our club in June 1999 and has dedicated the past 18 years of his membership to ensuring the club has operated in an efficient and harmonious manner.  His tremendous efforts included but not limited to the construction of our fabulous BBQ area in conjunction with Len Jenkins, Ralph Johnson, Max Rickard and several others.  The project assured the club had saved many thousands of dollars by not outsourcing the work.  Another area of his volunteer work that comes to mind involved the garden committee set up by Joan Carew.  When she asked for volunteers one of the first to put his hand up was Andy who still to this day continues to keep our club gardens in an immaculate condition. The financial savings provided by the club’s garden committee over the past 16 or so years is difficult to estimate but would also have amount to many thousands of dollars.  His volunteer work encompassed nearly all aspects of the club’s operation which required him to donate many hours each week.  They are too numerous to mention today. Like myself I am sure those who have had the pleasure to work alongside him will well appreciate his dedication.

During my tenue as the clubs CEO I can say Andy was of great assistance in many area’s over those 11 years.  His willingness to get involved made my and the Boards functioning a lot easier.  I was very fortunate to have never experienced his reluctance to support the club’s management with him asking was there anything else to be done after completing an assignment.  You could always rely on Andy.

The Belrose Bowling Club has been extremely fortunate in having so many volunteers over my entire membership years.  Those wonderful volunteers both past and present have and continue to set a standard other clubs may only dream about.  Andy Little to this day has become the yard stick by which future volunteers will be judged.

I commend to the meeting his nomination for Life Membership."

Andy Little, Wednesday, 25 October 2017

Belrose State Triples Champions.

Well done to our team of Crawford Linton, Matt Blackburn and Steve Rawlings on winning this State Championship at Ettalong Memorial BC yesterday.

In round 1 on Monday they played Condong (Zone 1) and won 34-12. In quarter-final they played Cabramatta (Zone 12) and won 24-17.

Yesterday in the semi-final they played Wallacia (Zone 5) and won 28-15.

The final was against Port City (Zone 14) they lead all the way to win 29-13.

This was an overall outstanding effort by our boys and a real team effort to achieve this result.

Also, thanks to our small group of supporters of Billie & Steven Maas, John Venteman, Chris Webber, plus Joe Saragozza (who attended on Monday).

Well done again and congratulations to Craw, Matt & Rawlo on gaining this State Title and they now go on to play against all other States to gain (we hope) the Australian Triples Championship Title. This will be played from 28-30 November at Merimbula-Imlay BC.

The Women’s Club  Annual Spring Carnival

The Women’s Club held their annual Spring Carnival recently on a beautiful day with a very large number of participants from neighbouring clubs.  The three greens were fully in use, and with all the different Club colours, it was a great sight.

The day included morning and afternoon triples games with lunch in between.  There were also plenty of raffles and our thanks go to our local businesses who supported us so well:

The Dish Restaurant was our major sponsor.  From Glenrose Village, we received great support from Costi Seafood who provided a wonderful seafood platter, Glenrose Beauty Gallery for a generous voucher and beauty bag, Belrose Chemist gave a wonderful gift and Woolworths provided a $50 gift voucher.  Our own members also gave generously.  This event is our major fund raising event for the year and we were thrilled to make a large amount of profit which will go to Bear Cottage Manly.

Womans Minor Singles 2017

Minor singles champion Therese Bodie
Vicki Adamson, Tuesday, 17 October 2017

Womans Minor Singles 2017

The Women’s Club Minor singles championship was a very hard fought series of games.  The early rounds provided some wonderful viewing and showed what exciting new players we now have in our club.  The final was contested on a beautiful, but quite hot, day between Vicki Adamson and Therese Bodie.  Therese took an early lead but Vicki doggedly kept at her tail and by the last end Therese was only one point in front.  Therese then put down a full length jack and Vicki could not match her on it, giving Therese victory.

It was an extremely long game, with the score generally going up often by just one shot.  By the end there was a great audience watching, as many of the ladies had decided not to play on the day but just watch, and those that were playing had long finished their games and joined in with the spectators.

Everyone agreed that both ladies had played great games but special congratulations must go to Therese who has not been playing the game for very long.

A Grade mid week challenge

Congratulations to our A2 side for their close defeat to Harbord in the final of the A Grade mid week challenge.
After a spectacular effort in the semi final to defeat the Belrose A1 side by 61-60, the team was pipped at the post by a score of 52-49.
Despite the miserable weather at the commencement of the game, both teams provided many outstanding conversions which kept the appreciative crowd on edge right up to the final end.
Congratulations Harbord - very good company, and slightly better bowls on the day.
Well done to the Bulls who fought hard until the end.

September 2017 Touring Bowlers Trip to Forster/Harrington.

Andy Little, Wednesday, 27 September 2017

Touring Bowlers Trip to Forster/Harrington.

On Friday 15th 32 Belrose Touring Bowlers departed by coach to Forster. Another 6 travelled by car. On the way, we stopped at Raymond Terrace on the river for morning tea and then travelled on to Old Bar Bowling Club for lunch.

Accommodation was at the Forster Palms Motel owned by Forster Bowling Club.

Saturday morning was a spot of retail shopping followed by a great game of bowls with the Forster members.

Sunday, we left a bit early with all 38 traveller’s on board to enable us to arrive at the Harrington Bowling Club (Club Harrington) for home cooked morning tea. The Club is located in an outstanding location on the head of the Harrington River. Harrington BC had more players than us and we played on 1 grass green and 1 carpet green. This was followed by a lovely lunch in a great spirt of fun and laughter. The Club own the caravan park located opposite the Club.

After lunch, we travelled to Crowdy Head and then back to Forster. Dinner was back for the 3rd night at Forster BC.

Following another hot breakfast at our motel, on Monday morning the 18th we started our trip home, with a lovely drive to Gloucester for morning tea and on to Anna Bay at Birubi Beach for lunch. We arrived back at our Club at 4-00pm after having a fantastic time.

It was pleasing to see that Bill and Elaine Glenn could travel down from Brisbane to join us.

Congratulations go to our 2 host Clubs at Forster (Jason Malone Bowls Coordinator) and Harrington (Eric Mason President) for all their hospitability.

We were pleased to have our usual Coach driver Colin from Central Coast Liners who drove us safely and looked after us so well.

Our thanks go to our committee member for assistance in handling our weekend needs and in particular Geraldine and John Fitzgerald for all their hard work in arranging the trip

Overall an outstanding 4 days and we look forward to next year’s trip away.
