Belrose Bulls were well represented at the BNSW State Championships at Ettalong Bowling Club last week. We had teams in the Open Triples, Open Pairs and Senior Fours. The 16 Zones were divided into four sections of four teams and three round robin matches were played by each section to determine the section winner. The section winners then played in a knock out format to find the overall winner.

In the Open Triples, Steve Kerr, Adam (Moods) Moody & Mikel (Doc) Smith had one big win and two narrow losses. The loss by only 7 shots to the eventual section winners, Terrigal BC, was quite an achievement as the Central Coast champions had won their other matches by 43/8 and 39/13.

In the Open Pairs, Ethan Scott-Branagan and Stuart Rigg had three losses in the round robin sectional play however they kept their heads high when everything seemed to be running against them. This was a fantastic experience for Ethan who must have been the youngest player at the Championships.

In the Senior Fours we had the strong team of Joe (Joey) Saragozza, John (Ed) Venteman, Crawford (Craw) Linton and Tony (TT) Taylor who won all three round robin sectional play matches to qualify for the semi-finals.  The semi-final was a very tough match against Bathurst City and the Bulls went down 20/21 on the last bowl of the last end. Neither side pulled far ahead as the lead swapped back and forth throughout the game and the scores were often tied; 8/8 after 8 ends, 11/11 after 11 ends and then 20/20 after 20 ends!  With one bowl to play on the final end, Belrose held game with a bowl on the jack, at which point the Bathurst City skip played weight with his last bowl and disturbed the head and the result was one down for the Bulls.

Congratulations to all the guys, they are all champions and represented our club in great style.
